Special Projects

The term we use to denote acquisition schemes that are funded by individuals, in addition to our core acquisition schemes.

Special Projects are generally designed to support a particular kind or category of work, and typically offer larger sums of money for more ambitious purchases than the core schemes. The parameters of each scheme reflect the passions of individual donors, and are designed to be responsive to museums’ collecting priorities.

Competitive Special Projects are most often advertised on an annual basis to our Museum Members. The applications are reviewed by our Acquisitions Advisory Committees. Some Special Projects enable us to bring a Museum Member into partnership with another organisation for the purposes of making an extraordinary acquisition. In common with our Core Acquisition Schemes, all the Special Projects are research-lead, and ideally result in an acquisition completed within one financial year.
