Biography
Robert Cooper (b. Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK 1949) is a ceramicist and mud-larker who graduated with a degree in Interior Design from Kingston College of Art in 1972 and later did a postgraduate degree in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art, London in 1982. He has his studio at Vanguard Court on Peckham Road, Camberwell. London. His first solo exhibition was held at Anatol Orient Gallery, London in 1986 and his work was included in Anatol Orinet Projects: Beyond the Containment of Things (1999). In 2009 his work was exhibited at the Barrett Marsden Gallery in London and the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh. Cooper has taught on the City Lit Ceramic Diploma course. His practice employs recycling as a mode of working. Cooper uses different elements such as clays, oxides and glazes left over from teaching sessions, discontinued ceramic transfers, printed imagery from popular culture and even pieces of previous work are recombined to create new narratives with multiple meanings.
