This chalk drawing of 1909 by Henry Lamb was owned by Lord Henry Cavendish-Bentinck (1863- 1931) in 1911 when it was exhibited in a touring loan exhibition in Manchester by the fledgling Contemporary Art Society. He was the brother of the Contemporary Art Society’s co-founder Lady Ottoline Morrell (1873-1938) and half-brother of the 6th Duke of Portland (1957-1943) of Welbeck Abbey, Northamptonshire. He was the first Chairman of Contemporary Art Society until his death and gifted 11 works to the CAS and purchased two as a member of its committee which were distributed to UK public museums.
