Biography
Wally Cole (b. Woolwich, UK 1913 - d. 1999) studied at Woolwich Polytechnic from 1929 to 1936 on a special talent scholarship, and then at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, where he was tutored by the sculptor John Skeaping. His first exhibition was held at the Bloomsbury Gallery, London in 1932. He became a member of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society, and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the National Society of Painters, Sculptors, Engra-vers and Potters. In 1947 he founded Rye Pottery with his brother, John (1907-1988). He was a founding member of the Design Council and played a leading role in involving studio artists in the design and manufacture of affordable household goods.
