John 'Jack' Cole (1907 - 1988)

Biography

Jack Cole (b. Woolwich, London, UK 1907 - d. 1988) a potter who attended Central School of Arts and Crafts, was Head of Beckenham School of Art during the Second World War. Orignally London based both he and his brother, Walter 'Wally' Cole MBE (1913-1999) bought what is now known as Rye Pottery, near Winchelsea in 1947. Rye Pottery pieces were selected for display in one of the Design Pavilions of the 1951 Festival of Britain and they supplied to Heals of London, Tiffany’s in New York and the prestigious Primavera Gallery.
