Leslie James 'Grimey' Grimes (1897 - 1983)

Biography

Leslie James Grimes 'Grimey' (b. Chertsey, Surrey, UK 1897- d. Richmond upon Thames, Surrey, UK 1983) studied at Kingston College of Art and in Paris. He was known for his motoring art, including for The Motor Cycle, and worked for Morris Garages (MG Cars), producing illustrations for brochures. He also did artwork for children's annuals, like Boys Book of Motor Cycles (1928). He was the artist and political cartoonist at The Star from 1927 until 1952 when he moved with his wife, Annie McDonnell Ewen, who he had married in 1923, to paint in Ibiza.
