Arthur Rowland Howell (1881 - 1956)

Biography

Arthur Howell (1881-1956) was the director of the St George's Gallery in London until 1943 and the author of The Meaning and Purpose of Art (1945). He was for some years the agent of the expatriate New Zealand painter Frances Hodgkins (1869-1947).
