As part of the Whitechapel Gallery’s on-going programme to open up public and private collections to wider audiences, the Gallery presented a curatorial collaboration with the Contemporary Art Society.
For a period of 12 months from September 2013, the Contemporary Art Society presented a series of four displays at the Whitechapel Gallery, drawing on works from collections held by the Contemporary Art Society’s membership of 65 publicly funded museums and galleries across England.
Focusing on the North West, East Coast, Midlands and South, the displays used the founding principles of many of these institutions – philanthropic giving – as a central theme.
