Louisa Buck, art critic and contemporary art correspondent for The Art Newspaper, discusses the process and challenges for private collectors to commission contemporary artwork, from the initial invitation to an artist to the financing and the final installation of works.
Buck has written extensively on collecting and commissioning contemporary art, and her 2012 guide Commissioning Contemporary Art, 2012, co-authored with Daniel McClean, included informed insights on the commissioning process from Nicholas Serota, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Jeff Koons, Vito Acconci, Mark Wallinger, Anish Kapoor, RoseLee Goldberg, Thomas Krens, Anne Pasternak, Barbara Gladstone, Mera Rubell and Olafur Eliasson.
This seminar forms part of our Spotlight on Contemporary Collectors series to deepen understanding of the development of private, public and corporate collections.
