Material Worlds, Contemporary Art Society Annual Fundraiser 2011

Our 2011 Annual Fundraiser – Material Worlds was held on Wednesday 9 March at Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square and was a tremendous success! More than 350 art world VIPs, collectors, artists and celebrities joined our members and patrons for a champagne reception and dinner with an auction kindly conducted by Oliver Barker of Sotheby’s.

Chaired by one of our Trustees, Sarah Elson with the generous support of the Material Worlds Committee of major collectors and philanthropists, the event celebrated the rich seam of practice between fine art and craft, with new works being commissioned along this theme for sale on the night. Internationally acclaimed artists (Jake and Dinos Chapman, Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare and Gavin Turk to name just a few), along with emerging artists produced new work especially for the auction, which raised £240,000 in support of new purchases of contemporary art for audiences across the UK.
