Our Artist to Watch for October is British artist, Lindsay Seers. Her critically acclaimed commission by Artangel, Nowhere Less Now, is currently showing at the Tin Tabenacle in London until 21 October 2012.
Lindsay Seers’ work encompasses film, photography, performance and set–building often brought together in architectural installations which resonate with the layered narratives and unfolding histories forming emotional landscapes. Typically, the apparatus of story-telling and of cinematic and photographic processes becomes an implicated participant with no detached point of observation. What constitutes her artistic practice is not just storytelling, but the formation of a place in which the investigation of the act of photography, the camera as apparatus, the common desire for film and photography to act as evidence of events, and the complex historical and personal synchronicities of events themselves are not separated.
Lindsay Seers works and lives in London. Recent solo exhibitions include, Nowhere Less Now, Artangel [commission] (2012); Entangled² Turner Contemporary, Margate [commission] (2012); It has to be this way², BALTIC, Gateshead (2011) and Broadcast commission ‘3 minute wonder series’, Channel 4 (2010). Lindsay Seers was one of the participating artists in Focal Points: Art and Photography, Manchester Art (2012); A Trip to the Moon, Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm (2012); Something in the way, Lofoten International Art Festival, Norway [commission] (2011) and Rugby Art Gallery, inaugural exhibition of Contemporary Art Society and V&A purchase for the collection (2011). Winner of the Paul Hamlyn Awards for Artists (2010) and of Film London & Channel 4’s Jarman Award (cash prize and a broadcast commission for Channel 4’s highly acclaimed 3 Minute Wonder strand) (2009) among many other awards, commissions and residencies.
