Public Art for Cambridge University…
The public art strategy for Cambridge University sets out a visionary public art plan for the North West Cambridge development, a new mixed-use University quarter for the city.

An internationally networked residency programme is at the heart of the strategy, inviting artists to investigate the site and embark on collaborative research projects with leading Cambridge researchers. Permanent and temporary commissions will be developed over the length of this significant expansion programme.

Our consultancy team, in collaboration with InSite Arts were appointed to formulate the strategy and deliver the public art programme for the first phase of the development.

Commissions for Lyric Theatre Hammersmith
With guidance from our Consultancy team, the Lyric have appointed renowned artists Richard Wentworth and David Batchelor to develop art proposals to celebrate the unique theatre and mark the new Rick Mather extension which will be completed in 2013.

The artists are deep in design development for two stunning projects that will delve into the history and character of the theatre – more to be revealed soon…

Brief Encounters: The Future of Public Art in East London
In June 2011 we curated Brief Encounters: The Future of Public Art in East London for the Create Festival.

The evening celebrated inspirational public art projects across the 2012 host boroughs and provided a rare opportunity for artists, art commissioners and curators to explore the successes of public art projects whilst considering how similar ventures can continue in the future.

Speakers included artists Gavin Turk, Neville Gabie and Nina Pope (Pope & Guthrie), Head of Art on the Underground Tamsin Dillon and not for profit architecture collective Assemble.

The event concluded our year-long programme of research and advisement to the five Host Boroughs on public art commissioning practice within the local authority context.

Secret Garden Project, Tania Kovats, HABITAT, City Road Basin, London, N1

HABITAT is a floating garden produced by Brief Encounters participants UP Projects and created by artist Tania Kovats (who was commissioned by Contemporary Art Society Consultancy to create an installation at the Cicely Saunders Institute).

HABITAT
will introduce a floating, organic sculptural element to the City Road Basin in Islington which will enhance the magic of the hidden public space. The structure will be planted with various botanical species that are sympathetic to the watery environment. The installation will remain in situ for several years to allow the garden to establish and encourage local birdlife to inhabit this micro environment.
