A New Collection for Circle Hospital
Circle Hospitals are committed to transforming the patient experience and redefining healthcare. Their art programme was commissioned by Rory Coonan, Head of Design and Architecture for Circle’s sister company Health Properties and a former Head of Architecture and Public Art at the Arts Council. We have worked with Rory on Circle Bath since the Norman Foster designed building opened in 2009.
Earlier this year we curated a new loan collection of contemporary artworks. Many of the new pieces encourage contemplation and provide welcome moments of humour and wit within the hospital environment.
The new collection includes work by Tim Renshaw, Axel Antas, Bobby Patmore, Carole Graslan, Nadine Feinson, Jane Ward, Daniel Andersson and Fiona MacDonald. For more information on our work with Circle click here.
Olympic Park Commissions nearing Completion
The Contemporary Art Society was appointed in 2009 by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) to commission two works on the Olympic Park.
After an intensive development and production period DJ Simpson’s commission has just been completed. The work, a series of line drawings translated through individual holes punched into anodised aluminium panels will be a permanent fixture in the park, celebrating the legacy of the games long after the Olympics are over. Clare Woods’ commission is now in the final stages of completion and will be fully installed in time for the games this summer.
Public Art Programme for Cambridge University
The Contemporary Art Society with InSite Arts has produced the public art strategy for the University’s NW Cambridge development. The strategy that prefaces integrated approaches to working with artists and a sustainable programme of commissioning, both permanent and temporary through the 15 year long development programme.
In early planning stages currently, the University have appointed a high profile advisory panel to guide the artistic programme including:

Throughout 2012 we will be working with the panel to set up the framework for this significant public art programme.
Sneinton Market Square Public Art Launch
Working with Nottingham City Council and Patel Taylor architects the Contemporary Art Society appointed Neville Gabie as lead artist on the regeneration of Sneinton Market Square, Nottingham. Neville’s commission Orchard celebrates the market’s long history as a centre for food production and distribution.
The December 2011 launch featured commissions from local artists Rebecca Beinart, Mathew Trivett and Oliver Dalby with writer and poet Wayne Burrows exhibited at Surface Gallery; the planting of 100 apple trees through a newly set up community Apple Tree Adoption network; and a lively symposium at Nottingham Contemporary featuring acclaimed writer Carolyn Steel, artists Nina Pope and John Newling and Claire Patey, Curator of Feast on the Bridge.With cider pressing demonstrations, artist markets, film screenings in the square and an Orchard themed feast the weekend proved a fitting celebration for this truly engaged public art project.
