Contested Ground curated by Debra Lennard
Leeds Art Gallery, 28 September 2012 – April 2013
Upper Galleries North Room/Sam Wilson
Contested Ground explores the revision of the landscape tradition in British art throughout the last century, and the meaning of that tradition for artists today. Drawing on Leeds Art Gallery’s rich collections, this exhibition presents key works by pioneers of Modernism in England, from Paul Nash and Ben Nicholson to Barbara Hepworth and Peter Lanyon, alongside more recent experiments with landscape by artists including Richard Long, Boyle Family, and Clare Woods.
About Starting Point Opportunity
Starting Point is an annual opportunity open to recent graduate curators to work with public collections of modern and contemporary art.
Each year we plan to work in partnership with a different museum from across the country to offer exhibition opportunities and curatorial experience to curators interested in working with public collections.
