We are delighted to announce that Sacha Waldron has been awarded the Starting Point Curatorial Fellowship with the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery
Through her research Sacha Waldron has been engaging with the transformation of The Hunterian Museums and Art Gallery from multi-site museum to it’s planned centralised hub home at Kelvin Hall. The move signals a major physical and psychological change in how the museum operates and offers public access to its collection both on-site and online. Waldron has spent the summer researching how one might navigate and interact with the current Hunterian collections using the existing, and soon to be defunct, online collections management system. Working closely with the Hunterian tour guides and the Hunterian Associates programme, these highly subjective ‘walks’ through the collections have been developed by Sacha into a series of tours. In addition, the project will manifest itself in a series of interventions into the current museum collections, making visible those objects, artefacts and artworks that have rarely, if at all, been shown publicly. The project will continue until April 2014 when the final tours and a publication will launch will coincide with Glasgow International.
Sacha Waldron is a curator and writer currently running the curatorial programme at CRATE, Margate. After graduating in sculpture from the Slade, she worked for several years in programming at Liverpool Biennial alongside setting up various artist-led spaces before moving to Bristol to work across the education/curatorial departments at Arnolfini. Graduating from the Royal College of Art Curating Contemporary Art course in 2012, she spent six months at Nida Art Colony in Lithuania working in the curatorial department and researching concepts and theories of ‘remoteness’ and its relationship to artistic practice.
