“I’d like to encourage more people to buy work – for similar reasons I identified years ago – the pleasure it brings the buyer and the financial support and encouragement it provides for artists.”
Aileen McEvoy bought her first piece of art at the age of 18 – a screen print by artist Peter Nardini from the Royal Scottish Academy Summer Show in Edinburgh. Since then her collection has grown to include work by Cornelia Parker, Susan Hiller, Mark Dion, Bashir Makhoul, Gilbert & George, Tracey Emin, Charles Avery, Michael Craig Martin, Simon Norfolk, herman de vries, Fischl & Weiss, Joseph Kosuth, Willie Doherty, David Nash and Claes Oldenberg with a particular focus on the medium of print. Aileen has kindly agreed to welcome Members into her home to talk about her collection and an online selling venture she has recently launched called The Festival Gallery.
Barnaby (14-30 June) is a Festival of contemporary arts and culture celebrating Macclesfield’s rich heritage. Now approaching its fourth year, it has become an eagerly anticipated fixture in North West calendar. Members will be given a tour of the visual arts highlights with the chance to see how participating artists such as Rachel Goodyear, Brass Art and Liz West have responded to the Festival theme of Metamorphosis.
