Join us for the chance to meet the overall winner of the 2012 Salon Art Prize, Jennifer Douglas.

In her work, Jennifer uses a wide variety of media, from everyday objects to material either manipulated by hand by herself or working with specialist fabricators. She says of her work “I am purposefully making things from mediums that tell a story or communicate, and I seek to mis-communicate this: to twist it, and disguise it. I think that often there is a sense that the works create a scene where something has happened, or is just about to… That the materials are reduced to a base-state and then re-presented is both destructive and sinister.”

Through a dialogue between an informal and chance methodology of sculptural arrangement, and a purposefully codified register of materials, she explores the relationship between installation, incident and its implied significance.

Following the completion of an MA in Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art in 2005, her work has been presented recently in solo exhibitions: Would you care for anything?, 36 Lime Street Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne, in 2012, and The Short Score, Durham Art Gallery, in 2010, and in group exhibitions, including: Surface (loans from the Arts Council Collection), The Gallery @ The Civic, Barnsley, in 2013 and 2012 Salon Art Prize, Matt Roberts Gallery, London; Collecting Contemporary Art, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne and Out of Sight, Out of Mind, Workplace Gallery, Gateshead, all in 2012.
