In 2010, Newcastle based artist, Rachael Clewlow, won a large-scale commission from Hilton Hotel to produce 730 prints for the walls of the London Wembley hotel, part of the Olympic Village. The prints are based on a painting from Clewlow’s map series. Through detailed diaries, she makes rigorous and detailed recordings of her every day movements. This meticulous information is transferred onto intricate drawings and paintings, which render the maps difficult to read.
To produce the prints to a tight deadline, Clewlow collaborated with Jack Lowe Studio. His machines were in action for ten hours every working day for over six weeks. As well as a portfolio of his own photography, Jack Lowe has worked with many high profile artists including Tomás Saraceno, Julian Germain, Raqs Media Collective and Alec Finlay.
Join us for an opportunity to hear Rachael and Jack discuss the project as well as their other work.
