Join us for a studio visit with Phil Frankland.
Phil Frankland is a painter. He graduated from Newcastle University in 2014. His practice foremost explores the tension between the quickness of manipulating collage and the gestation period which painting requires. The studio visit offers a unique opportunity to gain an insight into his processes and approaches to painting.
“There is something about the freedom, the atmosphere and the self- motivated intensity of the studio environment which surfaces through and inevitably rubs off on the work that I produce. For me, an intimate relationship between the works I produce is very important. The iterative development of my practice allows ideas to gestate and be exposed. Although ultimately playful in material and spontaneous in appearance, these paintings and collages are often slow moving and subjected to various transitions along the way to more ‘finished’ states.”
