Join us for a studio visit with artist Katie Cuddon

Ahead of Pontoon Lip, a collaborative exhibition by Katie Cuddon and Celia Hempton at Cell Project Space, London, the visit offers an opportunity to see new works developed for the exhibition in the context of the artist’s studio.

Katie Cuddon makes sculptures known for their clotted, restless surfaces – the result of a modeling process where clay is gradually built up to create heavily fingered, pushed, pulled and pummeled skins. These are then painted, sometimes in a uniform colour or multiple layers of paint – applied, rubbed of and reapplied. Displayed upon wooden frames or juxtaposed with interloping props, the works organize themselves into something definite, despite their physical elusiveness.

Katie Cuddon lectures in Fine Art at Newcastle University. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2006.  In 2011 Cuddon was awarded the inaugural ceramics fellowship at Camden Art Centre and she was the Sainsbury Scholar in Sculpture and Drawing at the British School at Rome in 2008/09.  Selected exhibitions include: Spanish Lobe, Camden Arts Centre, 2011; I No Longer Know What The Money Is (solo), Alma Enterprises, London, 2010; New Symphony (group show), Simon Oldfield, 2010; Overshoot and Collapse
