Joe Fletcher Orr approaches art making from a position of disinterest, selecting objects from the high street, the market, the internet or the skip for their blank banality. He subsequently subjects them to seemingly deadpan systems of rearrangement (for example, sticking a packet of coloured stickers on top of each other in a piece called Stuck or turning a neon sign around to face the wall and titling it Vacancy) or pieced together through a playful choreography of their own formal qualities. While, on the surface, the changes to the objects may appear insignificant, the resultant works are ripe with humour and intellectual enquiry.
Joe graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2013 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Since then he has exhibited in group exhibitions across the UK most recently at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester. Joe was a Catlin Guide 2013 selected artist.
Joe is also the Director of the recently launched Cactus Gallery and will lead a tour of the current exhibition by Leeds-based Harry Meadley.
He currently has a solo show at The International 3, Manchester.
