This free Sackler CPD event is for members only

Join us for an afternoon of exhibition and studio visits in East London, before attending a reception to celebrate the first acquisition through the Valeria Napoleone XX Contemporary Art Society (VN XX CAS) initiative at Camden Arts Centre.

A major new work by American artist Martine Syms, never-before seen in the UK, will be acquired for Leeds Art Gallery through the VN XX CAS initiative. The museum will be the first to receive a work through this scheme after making a strong case for addressing the representation of female artists within their existing collections. The work will be unveiled on Wednesday 19 April at Camden Arts Centre, before forming a centrepiece of a major collection redisplay at Leeds Art Gallery when it re-opens on Friday 13 October 2017.

VN XX CAS is a joint initiative of philanthropist Valeria Napoleone and the Contemporary Art Society, in partnership with Camden Arts Centre, which acts as a focal point for debate on gender inequality in the arts, purchasing and donating a significant work by a living female artist to a UK museum each year. It intends to provoke an examination of collecting practice and the wider effect beyond the acquisition of the awarded work.
