The Contemporary Art Society are delighted to be partnering with Shortlist Media on the latest programme of Rotate exhibitions. Rotate is a strand of our programming that provides a platform for the work of independent and artist-run spaces and galleries working outside London by inviting them to exhibit works by the artists they are working with in our central London office spaces.
Eastside Projects is a Birmingham-based exhibition space with many differences. It is a free, public gallery that is imagined and organised by artists. Nearby Grand Union houses eight purpose built studios and a project space which provides a platform for a diverse programme of events and exhibitions. Both believe in working collaboratively towards change and do so to support the cultural growth of Birmingham. They say “We do not make art for the public, we are the public that makes art and that the artist-run space is not a stop gap. The artist-run space is a public good.”
For Rotate Ruth Claxton and Cheryl Jones present an exhibition of work by artists associated with Eastside Projects and Grand Union; including An Endless Supply, Helen Brown, Chris Clinton, Mark Essen, Juneau Projects, Kelly Large, Joanne Masding, Paul Newman, Elizabeth Rowe, Matt Westbrook and Stuart Whipps.
