Join the Contemporary Art Society for a fantastic summer day trip to the south coast. The trip will start with a visit to Becky Beasley’s studio where Becky will give us a privileged and intimate insight into her practise. Her studio is housed within Electro Studios on the sea front near West St Leonards. From there we will travel on to the De La Warr Pavilion for an exclusive curator led by tour of their acclaimed painting show, I Cheer a Dead Man’s Sweetheart, which explores painting in Britain today through artists both established and emerging. Last stop on the visit will be Charleston.

Located in the glorious South Downs, Charleston was from 1916 the home of Bloomsbury group artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and their unconventional household. Pioneers of early 20th century British art, Bell and Grant created a hub of artistic and intellectual activity at Charleston, which was home also to Clive Bell and Maynard Keynes and received guests including Virginia Woolf, Roger Fry, Lytton Strachey, T.S. Eliot and E.M. Forster. As such Charleston shares a rich and important heritage with the Contemporary art Society which was founded by the same circle of people. Members will receive a special introduction by Charleston’s head curator, Darren Clarke and a tour of the house before heading back to London.

Don’t miss this wonderful trip!
