PROJECTS is a series of exhibitions within the Contemporary Art Society space at 59 Central Street that transform and use the architecture of the building, drawing into focus questions around modes of display and the encounter between contemporary art and architecture.

For Project 08 Clunie Reid presents a new video and a photo-work designed to be integrated into the fabric of the Contemporary Art Society headquarters. Both works continue her exploration of digital image montage within video editing software. In this new work The Given that keeps on Givin’, Reid splices staged image references to Marcel Duchamp’s Étant Donnés, (1946-1966) and The Large Glass (1915-1923) with other digital image materials in bursts of text and image.

Reid contemplates the latent content within Duchamp’s formalist work, layering new connotations by cutting in explicit imagery sourced from popular culture today. Words and phrases appear in varyingly scrambled sentence order before disintegrating into a “trash polemic” that reflects the complexities of digital image culture.

The show also features twenty-four photo-works which have been mounted on perspex and individually reworked with silver ink. Each photograph has been extracted from the video and acts as an extension of the original work.
