Following the success of the Northern Print Biennale 2009, Northern Print have secured funding for the International Print Biennale 2011. The aim is to reward and promote excellence through showcasing the very best in new British and international print-making.
Central to the Biennale is the 2011 International Print Awards, an open submission prize for British and international artists whose work encounters print, in any medium. Shortlisted work by 44 artists are presented across three galleries in Newcastle: the Hatton Gallery, Laing Art Gallery and Northern Print with the winner being announced on 24 September.
Join Mike Taylor, Director of the Paupers Press and one of the three judges of the 2011 Awards, for a tour of largest of the three exhibitions at the Hatton Gallery. Mike will also draw upon his expertise and lead a discussion around print-making in contemporary art practice.
The exhibition features works by shortlisted artists, who are both established print-makers and relative newcomers, selected from 650 entries from 35 countries.
