Join us for a series of exclusive events in Sheffield. The day will include:
• A tour of Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011 led by Director Rebecca Heald and Chair Sacha Craddock.
Established in 1949, this annual exhibition showcases the best work from artists still at, or just graduated from, art schools across the UK. The 40 participating artists have been selected by a panel including artists Pablo Bronstein, Sarah Jones and Michael Raedecker. This is the first time the show has visited Sheffield in over 20 years.
• A studio visit with artist Haroon Mirza. In his assemblages and sculptural installations made from furniture, household electronics, found video footage and existing artworks, Mirza explores the possibility of the visual and acoustic as one singular aesthetic form. Mirza won the Northern Art Prize in 2010, and was selected for the British Art Show 7 and awarded the Silver Lion as the most promising young artists at the Venice Biennale 2011.
• A behind-the-scenes visit to the ‘works on paper’ store for The Graves Gallery. Louisa Briggs, Senior Curator of Visual Art, will show a selection of key works, some of which have been acquired with the support of the Contemporary Art Society.
• And finally, a special buffet dinner hosted by Bloomberg New Contemporaries at Sheffield Cathedral.
