Join us for a curator’s study day in London, for Arts professionals to learn more about the most innovative craft practices in the UK today.
The day will start at Deptford Town Hall, where the Goldsmiths Textile Collection is housed in the Constance Howard Gallery. Curator of the collection Jane Cameron will introduce the centre, which is dedicated to multidisciplinary textile research and we will be able to view some exemplary textile pieces.
Janis Jefferies, Emeritus Professor of Visual Arts at Goldsmiths, who has curated exhibitions with textile works internationally and has published extensively on the subject, will then talk about the transformative element of textiles and the potential of crafts in the age of technology.
Following lunch, we will visit the studios of Eleanor Lakelin and Darren Appiagyei at Cockpit Arts in Deptford. Both artists work with wood and appreciate the natural qualities of the material, as well as the ways it can transform into something entirely different. They will talk about their practice and we will be able to see new work.
Participants can then choose to extend their day for the opening of an exhibition by Farrah Riley-Gray at the Constance Howard Gallery, who has won the 2019 Christine Risley Award for outstanding work relating to textiles.
We regret to inform you that Deptford Town Hall may present difficulties to those with limited mobility.
