Join us for a tour of the sculptures by these significant artists.  Sophie Raikes, Assistant Curator, and Michelle Allen, Exhibitions Organiser/ Registrar will introduce Simon Fujiwara’s Rebekkah which was purchased for Leeds Art Gallery through Contemporary Art Society’s Collections Committee.  This work feeds into existing narratives of the  Gallery’s collection and helps to chart the development of figurative sculpture from the 19th century. Referencing the Terracota Warriors, Rebekkah was inspired by a 16-year old protagonist of the 2011 London riots.

The tour will then consider Tooth House in which Ian Kiaer re-purposes humble materials such as packing foam, wrappers and discarded plastic sheeting to ask questions about value and form.  These often fragile works made between 2005 and 2014 draw on scale, material and encounter – key terms in study of sculpture- to explore the structure and use of the model.

The conversations will continue over coffee in the boardroom.

Free to Contemporary Art Society Members. To reserve a place, contact Moira Innes on moira@contemporaryartsociety.org or 07946 604 109.
