Bradford-born, London-based artist Elizabeth Price creates dense, immersive video installations, which bring together image, text and music. She uses historical material to generate the fantasy narratives of the work, drawing upon archives of photography, film and collections of artefacts. These include consumer objects that are usually degraded, redundant, or damaged but which are also acknowledged as complex and determining expressions of our human lives, our social relationships and our collective ideas.
Her latest work, West Hinder explores some of these themes through a ‘ruined cargo’ – a containership of new, luxury cars, corrupting at the bottom of the sea. This video will be shown alongside two other works, Choir and User Group Disco, in HERE, her solo exhibition at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the largest presentation of her work to date.
Join Alessandro Vincentelli, Curator of Exhibitions & Research at BALTIC, for an exclusive out-of-hours tour of Elizabeth Price exhibition for Contemporary Art Society North East members.
A work by Elizabeth Price, User Group Disco, 2009 which featured in last year’s major touring exhibition British Art Show 7, is the charity lot for the benefit of Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art at the Contemporary Art Society’s annual fundraising gala LEAP!, on 29 February 2012. Elizabeth Price is represented by MOT International.
