CPD: Hosting Artists 1

24 March 2022

14.00—16.00

Contemporary Art Society is collaborating with FRANK on the first session of its “Hosting” series. FRANK stands for fair practice in the arts and fair pay for artists. FRANK, at its essence, reimagines a different, and fairer arts ecology in supporting artists, than the one we have today. FRANK is committed to radically change the conversation and the reality surrounding artists’ pay by working in collaboration with arts institutions, funding bodies and unions in the UK.

The session will take place over the course of two hours, with introductions from the initiators of FRANK, artists Anne Hardy, Lindsay Seers and curator & writer Fatoş Üstek, followed by group discussions on how to align with FRANK’s Principles in institutional practice.

The workshop will discuss fair practice in the arts, bringing forward constructive approaches for betterment in institutional practices. The labour of an artist in a commission is often opaque. With a practical component, the workshop will be mostly concerned with National Portfolio Organisations in Britain that are beholden to public funds, the participants will be asked to share recent examples of working with artists. This workshop will address some real life scenarios in which participants will be guided by a notional game in which there are five categories of information. Medium, Finance, Labour, Support, Ambition, Problems, Outcomes, Long Term Effects (how to change). It is time to find resolution for artist poverty.

This is an online event and spaces are limited to no more than 35 people. To reserve a place please email info@contemporaryartsociety.org
