Ahead of the opening of his first solo exhibition at The International 3, join us for the opportunity to hear artist Rafal Topolewski talk about his work. Comprising entirely of new work, this exhibition demonstrates Topolewski’s on-going interest in the role of image making in the contemporary world. Recognising that computers, mobile phones and digital photography have rapidly changed the way we produce and receive images, Topolewski’s interest lies in the role of painting and the painter within this complex and confusing contemporary immersion in pictures.
Born in Grudziadz, Poland in 1983, Topolewski studied in the Faculty of Architecture at The University of Technology in Wroclaw, before beginning his BA Hons (Fine Art) at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2009. Graduating in 2012 with a first class honours degree, Topolewski was awarded the Alumni Prize. Since graduating, he has exhibited at Art Gwangju, Malgras Naudet (Manchester) and The International 3 (Manchester). He was one of the four finalists of the 2012 Saatchi Gallery and Channel 4’s New Sensations Prize, selected by the 2013 Catlin Guide and was recently invited by the Zabludowicz Collection to take part in Testing Ground: Master Class, a five day intensive course for eight emerging artists. Rafal Topolewski will begin an MA at The Royal Academy Schools, London in September 2013.
Topolewski’s work is held in private collections in South Korea, Switzerland and the UK and in The Saatchi Collection.
