For the autumn exhibition in the outdoor space of The Economist Plaza at 25 St James Street, Bob & Roberta Smith presented Throw Art Away, a skip positioned in the centre of the Plaza. Nearby an 8 x 8 foot banner encourages visitors to Throw Art Away and participate in not only the production of their own art event but in Bob & Roberta Smith’s art as well.
Bob and Roberta Smith is a fictitious double act, alter ego of Patrick Brill. He says his intention with his art is, ‘…to communicate the idea that people can make their own art, that they do not have to have me do it. I think that art is changing and the business of viewing is changing.’
Patrick Brill studied at the University of Reading (BA) and Goldsmiths College (MA). Previous exhibitions include, The Art Amnesty, Pierogi, New York; Stupid Men & Useless Women, Anthony Wilkinson Gallery, London; Create Your Own Reality, Galerie Carbone,Turin Italy; Intelligence: New British Art 2000, Tate Britain, London; Stop It Write Now, Museum of Modern Art, Oslo.
