Rapid Response Fund

Information for Museum Members

The Contemporary Art Society, in partnership with Frieze, is officially launching a new fund in response to the Covid-19 crisis on 20 May. Called the CAS Rapid Response Fund, it will be used to purchase works by UK based artists and makers to add to collections of museums across the UK – ensuring financial support goes where it is needed most – straight to the grassroots of the UK art scene.

Museum Members of the CAS are invited to apply to the CAS Rapid Response Fund from 20 May 2020. The successful applicants will make the case for the acquisition of work by a British based fine art or craft practitioner whose work will support the Member Museum’s civic role in their community when they reopen after the lockdown is lifted. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling monthly basis with awards confirmed to enable rapid purchase of works of art and craft.

Contemporary Art Society Museum Members considering applying to the scheme must arrange to speak personally with a member of the curatorial staff at the Contemporary Art Society before applications are reviewed by the Advisory Committee. More detailed application guidelines will be available at this point.

Applications will be assessed on a monthly basis beginning at the end of May 2020. The first round of purchasing will be announced at the beginning of June, and applications will continue to be invited each month as further funds are raised.

To set up an appointment for a conversation with a member of Contemporary Art Society’s curatorial staff please contact:
Christine Takengny, Senior Curator, Museums Acquisitions, at christine@contemporaryartsociety.org.
