Biography

Founded in 1962 by Alex Gregory-Hood (1915-1999) a former Colonel in Grenadier Guards. He opened the Rowan Gallery in Lowndes Street, in the fashionable London district of Belgravia. The gallery was to form a coteries of forward thinking establishments amongst the first to bring British abstract and experimental art to a post-war public. Due to the rise in property prices, however, Gregory-Hood was forced to go into partnership with Annely Juda Fine Art in 1982, trading as Juda Rowan at 11 Tottenham Mews, London W1. That lasted until 1987 when he entered into a second partnership with the Mayor Gallery, this time trading as the Mayor Rowan Gallery, but only for a few months when the Rowan ceased to exist.
