Biography

The collection of more than 2,000 artworks at Imperial College Healthcare focuses on 20th century and contemporary British art. They also work with emerging artists on projects, installations and exhibitions. Many established artists are represented in the collection including Jo Bruton, Nigel Hall, Tess Jaray, David Mach, Julian Opie, Chris Orr, Bridget Riley, Alison Turnbull and Clare Woods. They commission and collect many different works of art, including sculptures, paintings, video installations, photographs, limited edition prints and original works on paper. The aim is to display these artworks throughout their hospitals - in public areas, clinical units and outdoors - in order to enhance and uplift what can be sterile and intimidating surroundings and care for many historical works of art at the hospitals - each associated with the site's unique individual history. They are fully accredited by Arts Council England; the focus is on sustainability, and the artworks are cared for to museum standards.
