David Batchelor has combined beautiful monochromatic surfaces - achieved by painting the underside of sheets of acrylic - with found objects. These objects are in fact industrial trolleys scavenged from around London. The artist has drawn from the traditions of the monochrome (for example, Yves Klein and his infamous blue paintings) and minimal art. Although fields of colour are intrinsic to the work's quality, it remains an object. In this way Batchelor creates a work of art which uniquely exists somewhere between painting and sculpture.
