Henri Gaudier was born in France. As a sculptor in Paris he met Sophie Brzeska, sharing her name when he moved to London in 1911. This drawing is probably of Sophie.Although primarily a sculptor, Gaudier-Brzeska almost invariably worked on paper while developing his ideas.
