Physical Object Description:

Table, smooth cherrywood, with narrow top surface made up of two lengths of wood that have been joined by a jointing detail in a contrasting white wood called sycamore. The joint, three lines horizontal to each other and on each side are simplistic in style. These joints also hold in place the legs of the table which alternate from wide in width from where they join the table top tapering to a narrower point at the foot of the legs to the alternative way round for the adjacent leg. The legs are flat in appearance. There are two legs each either side of the table and two at the back that come from either ends to almost join each other each leg in a convex curve.

Rupert Williamson is one of the foremost designer-craftsman of furniture working today. After the great storm in England in 1987, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, London held an exhibition of pieces of furniture made from blown-down timber. Williamson made three tables, one of which was acquired by the Contemporary Art Society for the Shipley Art Gallery in 1992
