One of several studies for a series of etchings, 'The Dance of Death' (1914-18); two soldiers lying on the ground, one wearing a gas mask, the other reaching out to touch the figure of Death, wearing a shroud Brush drawing in black ink, black chalk and graphite. Inscribed: "Death refuses".
