Biography
Chattie Baldwin Wake (b. Hounslow, Middesex UK 1876 - d. 1972), daughter of Colonel Edward Baldwin Wake of the 21st hussars, and a descendant of Hereward the Wake married fellow artist Major Michel Hewitt Salaman (1879-1971) on June 8 1904. Both had studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and were friends with Augustus and Gwen John, Edna Clarke Hall and Albert Rutherston. Their children Michael and Merula Salaman (1914-2000) also later studied the Slade.
