Gareth Jones (1965)

Biography

Gareth Jones (b. Milton Keynes, UK 1956) studied at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic (now Northumbria University). He was a resident at Delfina studios in London (2003). His projects have included Seven Pages From a Magazine 1975-2001 at Platform, London and Milton Keynes Drawings exhibition at Helmut Jacoby, 38 Langham Street, London.  He was commissioned by Cubitt (established 1991) to make a new installation for the gallery space. It consisted of a series of nine interconnected structures that are based on the shape and dimensions of a standard plinth, adopting its form for subsequent elaboration, distortion and embellishment, and producing multiple variations within a single format. He also contribited a lithograph Diamond (1999-2000) to a portfolio of 20 artists' prints, in a yellow A4 size box, number 29 of an edition of 100 was acquired by Cartwright Hall, Bradford through the Contemporary Art Society. Cubitt is an artist-run gallery and studio complex in north London. In 2001 the complex moved from King’s Cross to Islington and the prints were commissioned as part of a drive to raise funds to help finance the move, and to support future exhibitions and events at the new gallery space. All the artists who contributed to the project had previously taken part in Cubitt’s programme.
