Victoria Rance (1959)

Biography

Victoria Rance (b. Streatley, Berkshire UK 1959) did a foundation course at North Oxfordshire Technical College (1978-9) and graduated in fine art from Newcastle University (1979-83), where she also spent a year sculpting in Mexico. From 1985, she sculpted and taught in London. Rance took part in many group exhibitions, including in 1999 both Sculpture at Goodwood and New Art Centre Sculpture Park & Gallery, East Winterslow, Wiltshire, England. Later solo shows included Annunciation Sculptures and Drawings at St John’s, Waterloo, London (1997), and Spire(2000), The Economist Plaza, London commissioned by the Contemporary Art Socety as part of its public art programme. For Spire, Rance drew inspiration from the lost architectural features of London and England’s fading traditions, from church spires to the maypole and Mayday celebrations. In 2002, at Price Waterhouse Cooper's Atrium Gallery, Rance showed work based on camerae obscurae. Ecclesiastical commissions included St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, London, 1998. She was the 2003/4 winner of The Mark Tanner Award for Sculpture. Later, Rance did an MA at Kingston University (2009).
