Biography
Thorley a third generation British potter. Trained as a decorative painter and designer, he served an apprenticeship at Wedgwood from 1906 to 1914. After serving in WWI, he left Wedgwood in 1919 and became art director and manager at a number of Staffordshire potteries. In 1927 he moved to the USA, where he worked in various capacities for some of America's leading pottery companies. In 1949 he moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, to supply the newly established museum shop there with reproduction eighteenth century teapots and vases.
