(Kate) Elinor Klein Lambert (1892 - 1977)

Biography

Artist, illustrator and printmaker. First wife of Richard Stanton Lambert (1894-1981) the biographer, historian and broadcaster. Married in 1918, they established the Stanton Press at  32 Chalfont Avenue, Wembley Hill, Middlesex, where they lived, in 1921, to publish hand printed volumes of poetry and translations which she illustrated but divorced in 1944.

Elinor died on 22 August 1977 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada according to a couple of different family history websites at least one of which seems to have good provenance from a family descendant. She studied art because on the 1911 Census (taken 2nd April) she was 18 years old and listed on the census as “art student”. She was living in Reigate at the time of the census but could have been commuting to London for her studies. She came from a wealthy family, so money would not likely have been an issue. I believe the family also owned a residence in London.
