Adrian Carruthers (1961 - 2001)

Biography

Adrian Carruthers (b. Oxford, UK 1961 – d. 2001), son of the sculptor Robert Carruthers (1925-2009), lived and worked in London, New York and Oxfordshire. He studied graphic design at Swindon Technical College, Fine Art at Portsmouth Polytechnic and the Slade School of Fine Art.  He last worked at the ACME studios at the Paper Bag Factory in Childers Street, South London. He suffered from a defective heart valve which affected him all his life and perhaps why he used his own blood as a medium in his watercolours. The Adrian Carruthers Memorial Fund established the Adrian Carruthers Award with Acme and the Slade School of Fine Art to provide support for postgraduates setting up their own professional practice.
