Brian Peacock (1935 - 2004)

Biography

Brian Peacock (b. London 1935 - d. 2004) studied at Royal College of Art, 1957–60 where he gained a Silver Medal in 1960 and the Prix de Rome, 1960–1. He was a part-time lecturer at Ravensbourne Art School and Hornsey School of Art, 1961–2, senior lecturer in painting at Manchester College of Art, 1962–7, then for many years was principal lecturer in charge of painting at Sheffield Polytechnic from 1967. Peacock was noted as an atmospheric painter of landscape. Group exhibitions included Young Contemporaries, John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, RA, Arts Council touring exhibitions and elsewhere, including one of four painters at Mistral Galleries, 1992. Peacock had a series of solo shows with Piccadilly Gallery from 1962, Mappin Art Gallery in Sheffield in 1978 and several at John Davies Fine Art from 1989. As well as living in Sheffield, he also explored the Cognac region of France.
