Biography
Simon Read (b. Bristol, UK 1949) studied at Somerset College of Art (1968-69); University of Leeds (1969-73); and Chelsea School of Art (1973-75). From 1980 to 2014 he taught fine art at Middlesex University and at Chelsea College of Art until 2007. He was a visiting lecturer throughout the UK and at Vestlandets Kunstakademi, Bergen, Norway between 1990 and 1996. In 2000 and in 2004 he conducted a photographic workshop for visual artists for the “Art Academy Without Walls” initiative in Lusaka, Zambia (funded by NORAD). Between 2000 and 2008 he was Trustee Director for Free Form Arts Trust Ltd. He has held several solo shows and participated in touring exhibitions of his own graphic and photgraphic work including at Anthony Stokes Gallery, London (1977 & 1981) and throughout the UK as well as in USA (1980); Canada (1984), Norway (1997).
