Lorenzo Alfonso Colarossi (1879 - 1965)

Biography

Lorenzo (Laurence) Colorossi (b. London 1879 - d. 1965) was the son of Angelo Colarossi, Sr (c. 1838–1916),  - the model An Athlete Wrestling with a Python by Frederic, Lord Leighton - and Mary Ann Gorman in West London. The family lived at 14, Masboro Road West, in Brook Green, Hammersmith, London. Both his father and brother, Angelo Colarossi (1875–1949) - who was the model for Alfrd Gilbert's Anteros (1891-3) in Piccadilly Circus, London - posed for Leighton's And the sea gave up the dead which were in it (1896), Tate. Lorenzo was a craftsman who made the box around 1930 with John Paul  Cooper (1869-1933) that was purchased by Ernest Marsh (1863-1945) for the Contemporary Art Society in 1933 and presented to The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge in 1944.
