Esther Knobel (1949)

Biography

Esther Knobel (b. Poland 1949), emigrated to Israel in 1951. She lives and works in Jerusalem. She studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem from 1970 to 1974 and at the London Royal College of Art from 1975 to 1977, where she took her MA in Jewellery Design. From 1985 to 1991 and 1999 to 2004 Knobel was a teacher at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. From 1997 to 2005 she taught at the Design & Art Program  at the Holon Institute of Technology. Awards include the 1994 Francoise van den Bosch Prijs, The Netherlands, the 1999 Ministry of Education Prize for Jewelry, Israel and in 2007 Andrea Bronfman Prize for the Arts (“Andy 2008”), Israel. Her jewellery can be found in the collections of many international museums such as Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Museum fur Angewandte Kunst Vienna, Craft Board of the Australia Council Sydney, Israel Museum Jerusalem, Museum of Art & Design New York, The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
